A farmer from an adjacent property visited today with a list of names of former students of the Old Birrego School who are still living in the area. He told us that there were many small isolated schools because it was a requirement in the olden days that students would walk to school. He himself had gone to the school in Boree Creek, another one-teacher school in the area. Unlike the Old Birrego School, the Boree Creek school is still operational.
