Students from the Boree Creek Public School visited the Old Birrego School on their way back from an excursion into town. We taught them how to play marbles – an old fashioned game the children no longer play. Asked them to play under the cypress pine tree – like they did in the olden days.
One of the former students had remembered playing drop the hanky, so we taught the kids how to play this too… it was a beautiful sequence I thought I filmed, but when we went to view the materials gathered this video recording was missing. I had made a mistake … I had forgotten to press the button on this particular occasion and this memory was not documented nor digitized.
I have been repeating the drop the hanky scene in my mind over and over. Would this be a scene I would remember more vividly than the scene captured on film? Yet sometimes we remember our past only because of a photograph.
