Listening to our recordings of our interviews with the former students of the Old Birrego School reveals recurring themes
the games they played
the teacher who played piano
their journey to and from school
We wrote them down and tried to make sense of it all. Editing words in sound is like printing in photography, where emotion of the moment past is revisited and reintroduced to the mechanical process of recording and photographing.
Listening is perhaps the most respectful act we do. Thanking may be another, but listening has the quality of letting things be.
As a photographer, the practice of listening gives humitly to my images.
